Lawsuits Target Small Business
It has been noted, in the June 2007 edition of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Newsletter, that small and midsize businesses pay $98 billion annually in tort liability costs. Over 75% of small business owners say that they are concerned about the threat of unfair lawsuits. Research shows that a business makes 1/3 of all of its decisions, ranging from raising prices to reducing employees, based on the threat of lawsuits. Small Business Drives the U.S. Economy
The Small Business Administration conducted a study and published the results in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s June 2007 Newsletter. This 2004 study confirms that small business equates to 50% of U.S. private non-farm GDP, gross domestic product. Bruce Josten, U.S. Chamber executive vice president, commented that governmental policies need to help small businesses “innovate, create jobs, and grow the economy”. The industry sectors that showed the strongest in growth included health and social services, arts and entertainment, and food services.
